| Mild mannered, calm Tony
Nelson. Astronaut and all American guy. Until he released a beautiful
genie named Jeannie from a bottle after a failed rocket launch.
From the first wish granted Tony was a bag of nerves. Unable
to make sarcastic remarks for fear of them being taken literally.
Always having to think of clever excuses for the wild
going's on that Jeannie in sighted.
While Tony claimed to be Jeannie's 'bosom buddy' there was always his underlying love for her. How else would he have tolerated her wild shenanigans? It wasn't until the fifth and final year of the series that Tony finally married Jeannie. This was undoubtedly the reason the show was cancelled. The sexual tension was gone with nothing to hold the show up. The role of Major Nelson portrayed by Larry Hagman was the toughest role on the show. The 'straight man.' The gag of all the jokes. The energy needed to play this character was a constant with Larry Hagman. No one else could have pulled it off. Trivia Note: Tony's uniform was blue signifying his detatched service from the Air Force. |
